Program Objective: This program cultivates professionals with a solid foundation in the basic theories, knowledge, and skills of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with relevant modern medical knowledge. Graduates are trained to be innovative and practice-oriented, equipped to work in Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina (therapeutic massage), rehabilitation medicine, and preventive healthcare, serving as highly skilled, application-oriented specialists.
Program Requirements: After completing the acupuncture program, students systematically study and master the fundamental theories, knowledge, and skills of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Graduates acquire knowledge of classical and modern medicine, as well as clinical techniques. They develop the ability to integrate TCM and Western medicine, applying herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina, rehabilitation, and preventive healthcare in clinical treatment and wellness. Through comprehensive theoretical learning and practical training, students cultivate innovation, independent learning, and self-study skills. The program also emphasizes knowledge in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, along with interpersonal and communication abilities. Graduates are expected to comply with Canadian and British Columbia laws, demonstrate dedication to Chinese medicine, and uphold high standards of clinical competence and professional ethics.
Program Duration: Four academic years (each year 8 months). Graduates receive a diploma and transcript upon successful completion of course exams and the graduation exam. Transcripts allow eligibility to sit for the Registered TCM Practitioner (R.TCM.P) exam in British Columbia or equivalent provincial regulatory exams.
Career Opportunities: Graduates who pass the assessments of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC (CTCMA) or other provincial regulatory bodies are eligible to register as R.TCM.P in British Columbia or other provinces. Registered practitioners may work independently or be employed in TCM/acupuncture clinics.
